Resumo O ensaio enfatiza a reflexão psicossocial do psiquiatra martinicano Frantz Fanon. But, in a postcolonial society like India the importance of Frantz Fanon should never go unacknowledged. Unfortunately most of the students of human behavior are unaware of Fanon and his contributions. In particular, the principles of Fanon's psychology address many of the concerns about disempowerment of service users which have been highlighted in work by feminist and anti-racist writers, and by members of the Mental Health Service Users' Movement (Hopton, 1995). In a post-colonial situation it can be argued that development and adoption of a neo-Fanonist approach to the practice of mental health care would address many of the problems of current mental health care practice. Unemployment is widespread and tyrannical rulers still oppress their people (Yousuf, 1996). Frantz Fanon paid particular attention to these social problems and his brand of political psychiatry is as relevant today as it was during his time. Such factors are as important as biological factors.

Factors such as political conflict, social tension and economic stress affect his mental health.
